The U.S. has threatened to move toward destroying Iran's critical infrastructure

The U.S. has threatened to move toward destroying Iran's critical infrastructure

Washington is prepared to maintain the blockade of Iranian ports and intensify economic pressure on Tehran for as long as necessary. If the country’s leadership does not change course, the United States will move to directly target critical infrastructure, energy facilities, and power grids.

CNN reports this, citing remarks by Pentagon chief Pete Hagset regarding the readiness to use military force against strategic targets.

The defense secretary emphasized that the current U.S. strategy is based on crippling the Iranian economy through maximum sanctions pressure. He urged Iranian authorities to choose a deal to improve the lives of the people, but warned of inevitable airstrikes in the event of further escalation. Currently, the U.S. Treasury Department has already received instructions to tighten restrictions against Tehran.

As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump is demanding that European allies present concrete plans within a few days to ensure the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump stated that he agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, during which the parties plan to finalize a definitive agreement.

Iran agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz to shipping for two weeks—for the duration of the ceasefire with the U.S. This agreement is part of broader negotiations on de-escalation in the region. But then he blocked it again.
