The U.S. and Iran Agreed on a Road Map for Negotiations in Switzerland
Participants in the four-party talks in Switzerland agreed on a roadmap designed to lead the United States and Iran to a final agreement within 60 days.
The document notes that the summit took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere, and the parties managed to make significant progress.
“The summit on Lake Lucerne took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere. Encouraging progress was made, including the establishment of a mechanism for further technical negotiations,” the statement emphasizes.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a High-Level Committee to oversee the negotiation process. The negotiating teams will report regularly to the committee on the implementation of all agenda items.
In particular, discussions will cover Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions policy, monitoring mechanisms, and dispute resolution mechanisms related to the implementation of the June 17 memorandum.
“The High-Level Committee has agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days, which lays the groundwork for the immediate start of further technical negotiations,” the document states.
The negotiators paid particular attention to the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. To prevent possible incidents, the parties agreed to establish special communication channels that will allow for a rapid response to potential threats to maritime traffic.
The negotiating teams also agreed to establish a group for conflict resolution in Lebanon with the participation of Lebanese representatives. Its main task will be to find ways to end hostilities and stabilize the situation in the country.
At this time, the details of the agreements reached are not being disclosed.
“The mediating parties will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the negotiations proceed in a constructive atmosphere with the aim of reaching a final agreement,” the joint statement emphasizes.
