Trump responded to allegations of pedophilia in the shooter’s “manifesto”
U.S. President Donald Trump categorically rejected the allegations allegedly contained in the so-called “manifesto” of the man who opened fire during a dinner with journalists in Washington.
Trump spoke about this in an interview with CBS News.
During the interview, he reacted emotionally to excerpts read by the host, in which the attacker referred to administration officials as “targets” and made serious accusations.
“I was waiting for you to announce this because I knew you would read it, since you’re… terrible people. Yes, he wrote that. I… I’m not a rapist; I haven’t raped anyone,” Trump stated.
When asked to clarify the shooter’s possible motives, the president continued:
“I’m not a pedophile. Excuse me. I’m not a pedophile. Did you read that nonsense from some sick person? I was linked to everything that has nothing to do with me. I was completely exonerated. Your friends on the other side of the fence were involved, let’s say, in the Epstein case or other similar things. But I said to myself, ‘You know, I’m going to give this interview.’ I read the manifesto. You know, he’s a sick person. But you should be ashamed of reading this, because I’m not like that,” he said.
When the host pointed out that these were quotes from the shooter, Trump reacted sharply and hinted at ending the conversation:
“You shouldn’t have read that on ‘60 Minutes.’ You’re a disgrace. But go ahead. Let’s finish the interview,” the White House chief stated.
The president also added that he wasn’t sure if he was the shooter’s primary target, but acknowledged that “it seemed that way to him.”
As a reminder, on the night of April 26, U.S. President Donald Trump hosted a dinner with White House pool reporters at the Washington Hilton.
During the event, an unknown man broke through a security checkpoint and opened fire. After several shots were fired, Trump and other high-ranking officials were urgently evacuated to a safe location.
U.S. authorities have identified the suspect in the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. He turned out to be 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen of Torrance, California.
