The Kremlin has indicated that Putin may attend the G20 summit in Miami — Reuters

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may attend the G20 summit, which will take place in Miami in December.

This was reported by Reuters.

According to an American official, the U.S. plans to invite Russia to the annual G20 meeting, which will be held in Miami this year. However, no official invitations have been sent out yet.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that Putin may either attend the summit or decline to participate, or Russia may be represented by another official.

“President Putin may travel to Miami as a member of the G20, or he may not, or another representative of Russia may go,” he said.

The Kremlin also emphasized that Russia will be represented at the summit in any case, highlighting the importance of the G20 format amid global crises.

It is noted that Putin has not attended G20 summits since 2019—first due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and later due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The U.S. president denied reports that an official invitation had been sent to the Russian leader to attend the G20 meeting, despite statements to the contrary from the Russian Foreign Ministry. Donald Trump noted that a visit by the Russian leader could be useful, but expressed doubt that such a trip would take place at all.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni publicly criticized the U.S. administration’s initiative to invite Putin to the upcoming G20 summit in Miami.
