Germany to stop investigation against Putin's oligarch Usmanov

The investigation against Usmanov lasted for more than three years and was accompanied by large-scale searches at dozens of real estate properties associated with the oligarch across the country. Investigators believed that after the sanctions were imposed in 2022, the businessman illegally transferred about EUR 1.5 million through foreign offshore companies to finance the maintenance of two villas in the resort town of Rottach-Egern. In addition, law enforcement officers accused him of concealing jewelry, expensive paintings and collectible wines that should have been declared in accordance with the requirements of EU restrictive measures.

The defense of the Russian oligarch has consistently denied all charges, questioning the legal involvement of their client in the assets in question and the legality of applying EU law in specific episodes. Despite the termination of the criminal prosecution in Germany, Alisher Usmanov remains on the sanctions lists, and a significant part of his wealth and blocked assets in the EU remains under arrest. The proceeds of the fine will be used for socially useful purposes and to support anti-corruption programs.

Earlier, a German court declared untrue the key accusation that became the basis for imposing sanctions against the sister of Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov, Saodat Narziyeva.

As a reminder, the court confiscated the assets of Russian oligarch Usmanov worth UAH 2 billion.

Also, the villa of Russian oligarch Usmanov is being sold for a record price in Bavaria.
