In Texas, former conjoined twins Scarlett and Ximena Hernandez Ambriz have defied all odds by competing as cheerleaders nearly a decade after their separation surgery. Born joined at the pelvis in 2016 alongside their triplet sister, Catalina, the girls underwent a 12-hour surgery at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi. Doctors initially warned they might never walk.

Today, nine years later, the twins not only walk but perform coordinated cheer routines with their mother as coach. “It’s like they were born again,” said their mother, calling their story an example of perseverance and hope for families of children with medical challenges.

According to medical experts, conjoined twins occur once in every 50,000–60,000 births, and about 70% are female. Survival and recovery depend on whether they share vital organs — making Scarlett and Ximena’s story an extraordinary medical success and a testament to human resilience.
