Hungary has accused Ukraine of attempting to sabotage a gas pipeline in Serbia
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó suggested that Ukraine may have been involved in an attempt to sabotage a gas pipeline supplying gas from Russia via Serbia.
This was reported by Index on April 5, 2026. The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry stated that this incident fits into a series of attempts by Ukraine to obstruct the transport of Russian energy resources to Europe, drawing parallels with the explosions on the Nord Stream pipelines and drone attacks on the Turkish Stream.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs categorically rejected these accusations, calling them baseless. Ministry spokesperson Georgiy Tykhyi emphasized that Kyiv has no connection to the explosives found in Serbia. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry views the events on the gas pipeline as a Russian false-flag operation, part of a large-scale Russian interference in Hungary’s electoral process. As a reminder, parliamentary elections in the country are scheduled for next Sunday, and the opposition had previously warned against such provocations using methods employed by Russian political strategists.
Serbian special services and military units neutralized a threat to blow up a critical infrastructure facility in the municipality of Kanjiža.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced the convening of an emergency meeting of the Defense Council in connection with an attempted sabotage of a gas pipeline on the territory of neighboring Serbia.
Peter Magyar, leader of the opposition party “Tisa,” stated that the alleged foiled sabotage of the gas pipeline in Serbia is a staged operation aimed at disrupting the parliamentary elections in Hungary.
