Ukraine may join the mission in the Strait of Hormuz — The Times

Ukraine is considering participating in an international mission to safeguard navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. It is also noted that Kyiv plans to deploy appropriate vessels to protect the coastline and clear mines from the waters.

This is reported with reference to a publication in The Times.

Ukraine is ready to offer ships

According to available information, four Ukrainian minesweepers currently stationed in Portsmouth are being considered as a potential resource for participation in the upcoming British-French operation to ensure the safety of navigation.

The Ukrainian side has stated its readiness to deploy these vessels once hostilities have ended.

International negotiations and plans

Ukrainian officers are participating in a meeting at the Joint Headquarters in Northwood, where representatives from over 30 countries are discussing possible formats for protecting maritime routes.

The discussions focus on measures aimed at ensuring the safe passage of ships through strategically important areas.

Restrictions and the current situation

The ships transferred to Ukraine remain in British waters due to restrictions on the passage of military vessels through the straits during wartime.

In the future, Kyiv plans to use these vessels to protect its own coastline and clear the waters of mines.

Ukraine’s Additional Capabilities

In addition to ships, Ukraine can offer its allies maritime drones and anti-drone capabilities. Such technologies are viewed as one of the tools for defending against potential attacks on shipping.

Uncertainty surrounding the mission

A final decision on the deployment of international forces has not yet been made. The question of cooperation with the U.S. and the timing of a possible start to the operation also remains open, as the situation in the region remains tense.

Iran has seizedtwo container ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

As a reminder, the U.S. military recently struck the vessel Touska, which was attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz under the Iranian flag despite the blockade.

Official Tehran refused to participate in the second round of peace talks with the United States, which were to take place in Islamabad.

Iran rejected Trump’s claims regarding the transfer of uranium to the U.S. and accused him of manipulation.
