For the first time in history, Ukrainian robots have independently captured a position held by the occupiers

For the first time in history, Ukrainian robots have independently captured a position held by the occupiers

The Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a unique operation in which they managed to take control of an enemy position without the involvement of infantry, using drones and ground-based robotic systems (GRS).

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this, emphasizing that the occupiers surrendered specifically to the robots. According to the head of state, the operation concluded without any losses on the Ukrainian side, marking a historic precedent in this war.

The president reported that in the last three months alone, Ukrainian robotic systems such as “Ratel,” “Termit,” “Ardal,” “Lynx,” “Zmiy,” and others have carried out over 22,000 combat missions. Each such mission saves a soldier’s life, as technology is sent into the most dangerous zones instead of people. Zelenskyy emphasized that the future of warfare is already on the battlefield, and Ukraine is a leader in implementing high technologies to protect its defenders.

The use of ground drones allows not only for storming positions but also for laying mines, evacuating the wounded, and delivering ammunition. Development in this area is taking place against the backdrop of active Russian attacks on logistics hubs and infrastructure, as previously reported by Ukrzaliznytsia. The success of this operation demonstrates the growing role of autonomous systems in countering the aggressor and the shift in modern combat tactics.

In January 2026 alone, over 7,000 missions were carried out using UAVs. These were primarily logistical tasks on the front lines—delivering ammunition and provisions and evacuating the wounded.

The Ministry of Defense has certifiedseven schools for training UAV operators.
