German government canceled social assistance for some Ukrainian refugees
Berlin has made important progress on the issue of social assistance for Ukrainian refugees: an agreement has been reached to cancel civil fund payments for those who arrive in Germany after April 1, 2025. According to the new rules, these persons will be equated with asylum seekers and will receive lower payments. This decision was made by Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and the social partners.

Around 1.1 million Ukrainians currently live in Germany and receive €563 per month, while the new refugee category will receive only about €180. This change was initiated due to the low employment rate among Ukrainians in the country. The government hopes that the new conditions will encourage more Ukrainian refugees to look for work, which will facilitate their integration into German society and reduce the financial burden on the social system.
