Internet access is being restored in Iran after nearly 90 days of being blocked — Daily Sabah

Iran is gradually restoring access to the international internet after nearly 90 days of being cut off amid its conflict with the U.S. and Israel. President Masoud Pezeshkian issued an order to restore internet access following the prolonged blockage.

This was reported by Daily Sabah.

On Monday, May 25, Iranian state media reported this news, citing the head of the public relations department at Iran’s Ministry of Communications.

However, the mechanism for restoring access, as well as how and when Iran will reconnect to the global network, remain unknown.

According to data from the NetBlocks internet observatory, most Iranians have been without internet access for 87 days, and only a few citizens have had access to expensive and advanced VPNs that bypass these restrictions.

Initially, the Iranian regime imposed an internet shutdown starting January 8 in response to nationwide anti-government protests. Internet connectivity then gradually returned to normal in February, before a new shutdown occurred following the start of the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran on February 28.

The publication notes that even prior to this, internet access in Iran was severely restricted due to the censorship of many websites. The regime is increasingly relying on an intranet to provide connected services without using the global network, particularly for schools that are currently conducting classes online.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington does not intend to rush into an agreement with Iran, despite progress in the negotiations.

Iranian state media reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding alleged agreements on opening the Strait of Hormuz, calling it “incomplete and untrue.”

The U.S. reacted strongly to Iran’s plans to introduce a toll system for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that this is unacceptable and could derail any negotiations. Washington considers this strategic waterway critically important and will not allow Tehran to exert commercial or political control over it.

Trump also confirmed the U.S. intention to intervene in Cuba.
