The United Kingdom has declined to station its troops on Iranian territory

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has officially ruled out the possibility of sending British ground troops to Iran, stressing that the country will not allow itself to be drawn into a major war.

This was reported by The Independent.

Despite refusing to participate directly in a ground operation, London will continue to take defensive measures to protect its own interests and those of its allies in the region. Currently, the British Air Force is already engaged in patrolling and protecting the civilian population, and the government’s top priority remains the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The economic consequences of the conflict will be the main topic of Starmer’s meeting with energy company and business leaders at 10 Downing Street on March 30, 2026. On Tuesday, the Prime Minister will chair a COBRA committee meeting to discuss the war’s impact on British households and measures to minimize financial risks. Thus, the UK is opting for a path of diplomatic pressure and limited military support for allies, focusing on energy security and the stabilization of maritime trade routes without a direct military presence on Iranian soil.

The UK plans to convene a meeting in the near future of countries interested in restoring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
