Video: U.S. Delegation Gets a Firsthand Look at Ukrainian Drones
On July 27, a U.S. delegation led by Matthew Whitaker, Permanent Representative to NATO, visited one of the units of the Ukrainian National Guard. The American representatives were shown the capabilities of Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems used for combat missions and reconnaissance.

The U.S. delegation also included Lieutenant General Curtis Bazzard, Commander of NATO’s Special Mission for Security Assistance and Training in Ukraine, and Sandra Audkirk, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the United States in Ukraine.
During the meeting, National Guard servicemembers and police officers demonstrated to the guests the capabilities of unmanned aerial systems, which perform a wide range of combat and humanitarian missions, including evacuation from combat zones.
The U.S. delegation observed reconnaissance drones, a medical evacuation drone, and systems capable of searching for, identifying, and engaging targets.
This demonstration took place under real-world conditions, without the use of simulators or mock-ups. All drones completed the required demonstration flights, allowing those present to witness firsthand the precision, speed, and effectiveness of modern Ukrainian drones.
Members of the U.S. delegation also had the opportunity to speak with specialists from Ukrainian companies that develop and manufacture unmanned systems.
The manufacturers presented their latest solutions, discussed the specifics of their use on the front lines, how the technology is adapted to the needs of military units, and the ongoing refinement of their products based on combat experience.
During the meeting, the parties paid special attention to the latest interceptor drones. Soldiers demonstrated how these systems detect aerial targets, track them, and successfully carry out interception missions.
National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko explained that it is precisely these technologies that are playing an increasingly important role today in countering enemy drones on the front lines and strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure.
Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Vygivsky noted that today, Ukrainian defenders are not only effectively using the most advanced technologies but are also developing new approaches to warfare themselves.
“Our unmanned systems are the result of collaboration between the military, the government, and manufacturers, who are constantly refining their solutions based on combat experience. We are grateful to our international partners for their support, because it is through our joint efforts that we are strengthening Ukraine’s security,” Vygivsky emphasized.
In addition to viewing the equipment, the foreign delegation had the opportunity to learn about the practical approach taken by units within the Ministry of Internal Affairs to integrating unmanned technologies into combat operations: from reconnaissance and fire control to logistics, evacuation of the wounded, and countering enemy drones.
