Enemy drones attack Chernihiv, tens of thousands left without power

On 24 December in the afternoon, Russian occupying forces carried out an attack with strike drones on Chernihiv’s energy infrastructure.

This was reported by the press service of the Chernihiv City Council.

At around 2:00 p.m., residents heard an explosion as the strike directly targeted power supply facilities. The Ukrainian Air Force had earlier warned of enemy drones moving toward the regional centre from the north-west.

As a result of the attack, a critical energy facility in the Chernihiv district was damaged, according to Chernihivoblenergo. Tens of thousands of consumers across the region were left without electricity.

Energy workers will begin emergency repair and restoration work as soon as the security situation allows access to the damaged facilities.

City authorities also reported that a drone crashed on the premises of one of Chernihiv’s enterprises.

Preliminary reports indicate damage to the façade and windows of an administrative building, a garage facility, eight passenger cars, and a passenger bus. There have been no reports of injuries or fatalities.
