Zelenskyy announced that the Druzhba oil pipeline is ready for operation
Ukraine has completed repair work on the section of the Druzhba oil pipeline that was damaged by a Russian strike. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the facility is technically ready to resume operations, and experts have ensured all the basic conditions for the equipment to function.
The president announced this on his Telegram page, emphasizing that the resumption of transit should help unlock the European support package.
At the same time, the president noted that the risk of repeated attacks by Russia on energy infrastructure remains high, and no one can guarantee the facility’s safety in the future. Ukraine expects that this step will increase sanctions pressure on the aggressor and accelerate the diversification of energy supplies in Europe. While Ukraine is rapidly restoring damaged networks to fulfill its international obligations, in Russia, energy infrastructure is increasingly becoming a tool for political blackmail and military objectives. The head of state once again emphasized the importance of European partners completely abandoning Russian energy resources.
Key technical tests of the Druzhba oil pipeline system, which was damaged in January, were scheduled for April 21. The resumption of its operation is linked to the release of financial aid to Ukraine from Hungary.
The European Commission expects President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to officially announce the resumption of oil pumping through Ukraine via the Druzhba pipeline in the near future.
