BYD considers entering Formula 1 for global brand expansion
Chinese manufacturer BYD is exploring participation in Formula 1 and the World Endurance Championship to boost its brand recognition outside China.
According to Bloomberg, BYD is evaluating several options, ranging from establishing its own team to acquiring an existing one. This interest is tied to the company's international expansion, growth in the luxury vehicle segment, and the automotive racing industry's shift towards hybrid technologies. However, the main obstacle is the high cost—up to $500 million per season—and the need for years of preparation. BYD has not made a final decision yet.
BYD’s potential entry into Formula 1 coincides with the sport’s rising popularity in China and the USA, while the 2026 regulation updates emphasize hybrid technology, making this a strategically significant move for the company.
