Ford may release the Bronco pickup truck by the end of the decade

Ford may launch a Bronco-based pickup truck around 2030 and discontinue production of the Ranger at the Michigan Assembly plant in the fall of 2029. Motor1 reports on a possible change in the automaker’s model strategy, citing Automotive News. Ford has not confirmed these plans.

According to Motor1, under this scenario, the Michigan Assembly plant could be retooled to produce vehicles from the Bronco family. If the project goes ahead, the new pickup could fill the midsize pickup niche and compete primarily with the Jeep Gladiator, rather than with full-size pickups.

The publication also reports that a hybrid version of the Bronco could debut for the 2028 model year, which would be earlier than the pickup. Ford has already announced plans to produce electrified models in Europe under the Bronco brand, including a Bronco SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This model has not yet gone on sale.

Ford spokesperson Mike Levine told the Detroit News that the company will not comment on speculation about future products, much of which is inaccurate.

Motor1 notes that analysts view the Bronco as a potentially broader model family—similar to the Mustang and F-Series. The same reports mention a possible Lincoln SUV based on the Bronco, which, according to the publication, could begin production at the Michigan Assembly plant in late summer 2029. The next-generation Ford F-150, according to Motor1, is scheduled for 2029.
