Hankook showcases iON tires for electric vehicles in the US — InsideEVs
In the United States, Hankook demonstrated its iON tire range for electric vehicles at the Demo Days test-drive festival. As InsideEVs reports, the material is sponsored and presented by Hankook iON.
Electric vehicle loads
Electric vehicles typically have higher torque and greater weight than comparable vehicles with internal combustion engines. According to the material, this can cause conventional tires designed for gasoline-powered cars to wear out faster. The iON range was developed with such operating conditions in mind.
InsideEVs journalists tested Hankook iON evo AS tires on the electric luxury SUV Lucid Gravity. According to the publication, the vehicle weighs about 6,000 pounds and develops 909 pound-feet of torque almost instantly.

Noise and rolling resistance
Hankook says iON tires are designed to reduce noise from contact with the road. For this purpose, sipes are used in the inner part of the tread, while a foam insert is used inside the tire. This is important for electric vehicles, which do not have the noise of an internal combustion engine.
According to the manufacturer, the tire construction, tread pattern, and rubber compound are intended to reduce rolling resistance and help the vehicle use less energy while driving. Hankook estimates that installing iON tires can increase an electric vehicle's range on a single charge by up to 6%.
Return terms
Under the Hankook SureTire Plan, the company offers a free trial period for iON tires: they can be returned at no cost within 100 days. Terms and restrictions apply to certain products.
