Lucid and Bolt plan to launch more than 25,000 robotaxis in Europe — InsideEVs
US electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid and ride-hailing service Bolt have announced a partnership under which they plan to launch more than 25,000 electric robotaxis in Europe. Bolt is to integrate these vehicles into its ride-hailing platform, InsideEVs reports.
Lucid crossovers for robotaxis
The project is planned to use Lucid's upcoming lineup of midsize crossovers. The companies said they expect the vehicles to integrate the Nvidia Hyperion hardware and software platform.
According to the publication, the Tesla Model Y-rival crossovers are expected to support Level 4 autonomous driving under the SAE classification. This level means that no driver is needed behind the wheel. InsideEVs explains that in the event of problems, responsibility for the vehicle's operation will rest with the automaker or fleet operator.
The publication also notes that the midsize Lucid Cosmos crossover could potentially be used for robotaxis in Europe.

Division of roles in the partnership
The partnership will be coordinated by Bolt Autonomous Driving Solutions, a company division specializing in autonomous driving. Bolt will define vehicle requirements, create fleet infrastructure and operating systems, and establish partnerships with cities for the large-scale deployment of robotaxis.
The newly created Lucid Technologies will be responsible for implementing Lucid's driver-assistance systems and digital features. Bolt founder and CEO Markus Villig said the companies would jointly develop the vehicle and software, using Bolt data and experience operating in more than 850 cities.
The deployment of robotaxis will depend on European countries granting permission for their operation. Lucid and Bolt said they would work with regulators and policymakers to launch the service. Bolt aims to have 100,000 autonomous vehicles on the roads by 2035.
