Tesla plans more than 100 charging stalls for Semi in Europe — InsideEVs

Tesla plans to deploy more than 100 Megacharger charging stalls in Europe to support the launch of the electric Semi truck. The initial network is expected to consist of 21 charging stations in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

As InsideEVs reports, Tesla Semi development head Dan Priestley announced these plans at the IAA Transportation exhibition in Hanover. The company did not disclose the timeline for building the initial network of 21 stations. The first deliveries of the Tesla Semi to Europe are scheduled for next year.

Megacharger specifications

Megachargers can provide up to 1.2 MW of power. According to Tesla, under these conditions, the Semi battery can be charged to 60% in approximately 30 minutes. The European installations will have a 1,000 V power cabinet and two charging stalls capable of supplying up to 1,500 A per electric vehicle.

Tesla Semi and Megacharger are equipped with an MCS 3.2 connector. As a result, other high-energy-consumption electric trucks will not be able to use Megachargers in Europe. At the same time, Tesla will provide Semi buyers with CCS adapters, allowing trucks to charge at stalls with CCS2 connectors across the continent.

Equipment sales

The company has also opened orders for the Megacharger and the lower-power Basecharger for customers, including logistics hubs that need their own charging infrastructure. The first deliveries of this equipment to Europe are scheduled for the middle of next year.

A Megacharger set with a power cabinet and two charging stalls costs €163,000. The 120 kW Basecharger, which combines the necessary components in a single enclosure, costs €17,000, with a minimum order of two units. It has an output of 120 kW of direct current and 125 kW of alternating current. According to Tesla, the Basecharger can charge a Semi to 80% in approximately four hours.
