Car production in Thailand rose 10.93% in August — Channel NewsAsia

Car production in Thailand increased by 10.93% year on year in August 2026, reaching 124,646 units. The Federation of Thai Industries reported this, according to Channel NewsAsia.

Production accelerates

In July, car production in the country increased by 6.12% year on year. The growth rate of August output was higher than a month earlier.

Car sales on Thailand's domestic market rose by 25.59% in August compared with the same period of the previous year. In July, this figure stood at 20.07%.

Exports and industry forecast

Car exports from Thailand fell by 2.04% year on year in August. In July, by contrast, exports increased by 2.39%.

In July, the Federation of Thai Industries forecast that car production would decline by 3.33% by the end of 2026. The organization cited an expected fall in exports due to hostilities in the Middle East as the reason. Earlier, the federation had projected production growth of 3%.

Last month, the Thai government announced its intention to reduce excise tax rates for carmakers that establish production facilities in the country and use more local parts and raw materials. Thailand is Southeast Asia's largest automotive manufacturing hub and an export base for Toyota and Honda.
