Poland to install record 48-km speed control section on A2 — RMF24

In Poland, two new average speed control systems are expected to be launched by the end of 2026 on the A2 motorway, which is being expanded between Łódź and Warsaw. One of them, on the Koszajec–Michałówek section, will be 48 km long in one direction and will become the country’s longest such monitored section, RMF24 reports.

Two sections on the A2

The new control system on the Dzierzgów–Niesułków section will cover 30 km toward Łódź and 31 km toward Warsaw. It will begin at the Stryków interchange and end near the exit toward Łowicz and Skierniewice.

On the Koszajec–Michałówek section, average speed measurement will begin shortly after Pruszków and end before the exit from the A2 toward Łowicz and Skierniewice. Until now, Poland’s longest average speed control system was an approximately 19-km section of the A1 motorway between the Piotrków Trybunalski South and Kamieńsk interchanges.

Restrictions due to roadworks

A speed limit of 70 km/h will apply on both new sections. It is being introduced because of heavy traffic and the need to ensure the safety of workers expanding the motorway.

According to Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, during the works, two lanes in each direction will be available on both carriageways of the A2, toward Warsaw and Łódź. Directorate spokesperson Szymon Piechowiak also said that there are currently no plans to keep these control systems on the route after the works are completed.

Another new average speed control system is planned for a nine-kilometre section of the S7 Gdańsk bypass east of its connection with the A1 motorway. Equipment for the new control points will be moved from the Tarnów bypass on DK94, the DK78 road between Wilcza and Nieborowice, and the southern bypass of Tarnowskie Góry on DK11.
