Why Minibuses in Kyiv Have Become More Expensive: Transport Operators Cite the Main Reasons
Starting July 15, the fare on Kyiv’s minibuses will increase to 25 UAH. According to transport operators, the fare hike is due to a sharp rise in operating costs and an acute shortage of drivers.
Among the main reasons cited are a labor shortage, rising prices for spare parts and lubricants due to the dollar exchange rate, as well as changes in legislation that have made it more difficult to exempt drivers from mobilization. In addition, some drivers are refusing to work on routes that pass through checkpoints.
Representatives of the carriers also believe that the sharp price increase could have been avoided if fares had been adjusted gradually rather than after a hiatus of several years.
