Kyiv Rejected a Petition to Preserve the Animal Adoption Center at VDNG
The Kyiv city government did not support the petition calling for the reversal of the decision to close the Animal Adoption Center on the grounds of the “Expocenter of Ukraine” National Complex (VDNG).
As stated in the response, on June 5, 2026, the “Expocenter of Ukraine” National Complex notified the Kyiv City Veterinary Hospital municipal enterprise of the termination of the agreement due to the expiration of its term.
In addition, the VDNG administration announced the implementation of a large-scale sports project, for which it plans to use the space in the pavilion where the Adoption Center was located.
City officials emphasized that all animals were transferred to other departments within the organization to ensure appropriate conditions for their care.
Specifically, the dogs and cats were placed:
- at the Desnianskyi District Veterinary Service (Kyiv, 5-A Heroiv Energetykiv St.);
- at the Stray Animal Care Service (Kyiv Oblast, village of Nove Zalissia, 24 Studentska St.);
City Hall emphasized that the process of adopting stray animals has not been suspended, but only the location of their temporary shelter has changed.
As a reminder, on July 3, the Kyiv City Veterinary Hospital announced the closure of the Animal Adoption Center on the VDNG grounds due to the non-renewal of the lease agreement.
This decision subsequently sparked widespread public outcry and active discussion on social media.
On July 19, an online petition demanding that the closure of the VDNG Animal Adoption Center be reversed reached the required number of signatures; however, following its review, the Kyiv city authorities refused to reverse their decision.
This is stated in Mayor Vitali Klitschko’s response to the online petition.
Earlier, a petition appeared on the Kyiv City Council’s website proposing to set a limit on free public transportation for retirees in the capital.
A petition calling for Kyiv Metro cars to be parked in underground stations during air raid alerts did not receive the required number of votes for consideration by the Kyiv City Council.
