Traffic on the Paton Bridge in Kyiv will be partially restricted
Traffic on the E. O. Paton Bridge in Kyiv will be partially restricted in the near future. The changes will affect only one direction, so drivers and passengers should take them into account when planning their routes.
When and for how long will traffic on the Paton Bridge be restricted?
The Kyiv City State Administration reported (citing information from the municipal enterprise “Kyivavtoshlyakhmist”) that traffic on the E. O. Paton Bridge in the capital will be partially restricted:
from 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11;
until 7:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14.
In which direction will travel be more difficult, and why?
Residents and visitors to Kyiv were informed that during the aforementioned period, specialists will be repairing a section of the bridge:
in the direction from the left bank to the right bank of the Dnipro River;
toward Mykola Mikhnovsky Boulevard.
Which lane is scheduled to be closed during this time
It is reported that the planned work will be carried out in the second traffic lane.
Therefore, during the repairs, traffic will be able to travel:
the first lane;
the third lane.
Finally, the Kyiv City State Administration stated that the municipal utility:
apologizes for the temporary inconvenience;
asks that drivers take these restrictions into account when planning their routes.
What is known about the overall condition of the Paton Bridge
In February 2026, experts from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine warned the public that the remaining service life of the capital’s Paton Bridge is estimated to be zero.
Citing the results of inspections, the experts reported that the structure’s components exhibit:
critical corrosion damage to load-bearing elements—main and cross beams;
cracks in the joints between the flanges and web of the main beams.
Shortly thereafter, the Kyiv City State Administration announced that the Paton Bridge in Kyiv remains open to traffic, but drivers must strictly adhere to the established restrictions:
weight limits;
traffic management plans (regarding lane usage).
At the same time, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko acknowledged that reconstruction of the structure—which is a local architectural landmark—is indeed necessary.
In response to the situation (and the public outcry over this issue), the Ministry of Community, Territorial, and Infrastructure Development reiterated that responsibility for the safe operation, restoration, and funding of work on the Paton Bridge lies entirely with the Kyiv territorial community.
