In Kyiv, traffic will be stopped during the daily minute of silence at 9:00 a.m.
The Kyiv City Council has decided to halt traffic for 60 seconds every day at 9:00 a.m. during the nationwide minute of silence to honor the memory of those who died.
At traffic lights where technically possible, all lights will turn red, and a voice announcement with a countdown will be broadcast over the city’s public address system. The initiative was developed at the request of Mayor Vitali Klitschko in response to an appeal from Kyiv City Council members who are currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the first phase, the new mechanism will be in effect in the central part of the capital, specifically on European Square, Khreshchatyk, Baseina, Velyka Vasylkivska, Yevhen Chykalenko, Volodymyrska, and Prorizna Streets, Bessarabsky Passage, Ukrainian Heroes Square, and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard; it will subsequently be expanded to other areas. While an “air raid alert” signal is active or announced, traffic will not be halted for safety reasons. City authorities will announce the exact date the new regulations take effect separately.

On September 3, temporary bus route No. 1-M began operating in the capital, connecting the “Palats Sportu” and “Lisova” metro stations. The route runs along the surface section of the Svyatoshynsko-Brovarska metro line to provide additional transportation links between the city’s right and left banks.
In Kyiv, there is a proposal to allow metro trains to operate during air raid alerts on certain sections to reduce the burden on surface transportation and cut travel time for thousands of passengers.
