An illegal arms dealer will stand trial in Kyiv

The Obolonskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv has filed an indictment with the court against a Kyiv resident who set up a scheme for the illegal sale of firearms and their components. The suspect, who earned 196,000 hryvnias from this illegal activity, faces three to seven years in prison.

According to the investigation, the defendant shipped orders to buyers via parcel lockers, using fictitious personal information and an invalid cell phone number. Upon verifying the facts, law enforcement officials documented two instances of goods being shipped to another region. The packages contained parts for foreign-made rifled automatic firearms with filed-off serial numbers, as well as short-barreled firearms modified for combat use.

The case has been classified under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as the illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances. The indictment has now been forwarded to the court for trial on the merits.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

Earlier, the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office referred to court the case of three members of an organized group involved in the illegal trade of weapons and ammunition.

In the Sumy region, during an operation, State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) officers discovered an ammunition cache set up by Russian military personnel near the border. It contained nearly forty anti-tank mines and 10 homemade explosive devices.

In the Chernihiv region, border guards and police officers discovered a cache of ammunition in an uninhabited building in one of the villages. Serviceable ammunition will be handed over to the Defense Forces, while unserviceable ammunition will be destroyed.
