In Kyiv, 34 people have drowned since the beginning of the year
Since the beginning of 2026, 34 people have died in Kyiv’s bodies of water, including three children. This is twice as many as during the same period in 2025, when 17 people drowned.
The State Emergency Service noted that people continue to ignore water safety rules. Rescuers cite swimming while intoxicated as one of the main causes of these tragic incidents.
The agency urged people to swim only at officially designated beaches, not to swim too far out, not to leave children unattended, and to call 101 or 112 in case of an emergency.
