British musician Kode9 to perform in Tallinn on November 13 — ERR News
British electronic musician and DJ Kode9 will perform at the Paavli Kultuurivabrik cultural venue in Tallinn, Estonia, on November 13. Polish drummer and composer Gary Gwadera, London-based artist Silvia Kastel, Bristol DJ Wash Electra, and Estonian performers Type1, Nikolajev and Susanna Raiend will also take part in the show.
Founder of Hyperdub
As ERR News reports, Kode9 is the stage name of Steve Goodman, a Glasgow native who moved to London for its music and DJ scene. He began working as a DJ in the 1990s, gradually moving from psychedelic jazz and funk to jungle, and later to garage and dubstep.
In 2004, Goodman founded the Hyperdub label, which released music by Burial, DJ Rashad, Zomby and Fatima Al Qadiri. Kode9 is regarded as one of the musicians who shaped the early dubstep scene.

Collaborative and solo work
One of Kode9's key creative partners was MC and poet Stephen Samuel Gordon, known as The Spaceape, who died in 2014. Together, they released the albums Memories of the Future in 2006 and Black Sun in 2011. Kode9's solo works include Nothing, released in 2015, Astro-Darien from 2022, and Escapology, issued in 2023.
Exploring sound
Before his music career, Goodman studied philosophy and earned a doctoral degree at the University of Warwick. In 2009, MIT Press published his book Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear, devoted to the impact of sound on people's behavior and emotions, as well as the use of sound as an instrument of power and the creation of fear.
