The Czech Republic will not participate in Eurovision 2027 and will not broadcast the contest

The Czech Republic will not participate in the “Eurovision 2027” international song contest. Czech Television will also not broadcast the music show. The Czech broadcaster explained the reasons behind its decision to withdraw from the contest.

The Czech broadcaster announced that the country will not compete in Eurovision in 2027 due to budget changes. “In 2027, we will not see the Czech flag on the Eurovision stage. But we will continue to cheer for the other contestants together and hope to see each other again at Eurovision,” the statement reads.

According to representatives of Czech Television, participating in Eurovision entails significant costs. Therefore, the Czech Republic has decided not to participate in the contest. “Eurovision is a large-scale project that requires significant resources for programming, production, and organizational implementation. Given the current budget changes, Czech Television has decided not to participate in the 2027 contest,” the post states.

In addition to the country not participating in Eurovision, Czech Television will also not broadcast the contest. Therefore, votes from the Czech Republic will be counted under the “Rest of the World” category: “Czech Television does not plan to purchase a license to broadcast the contest. At the same time, Czech fans will be able to watch the official online broadcast on the Eurovision YouTube channel and vote for their favorites.”

However, the Czech broadcaster noted that this decision applies only to 2027. It is currently unknown whether the country will return to the international contest in 2028. “We consider each edition of the contest separately, so we do not want to speculate at this time about when Czech Television will rejoin Eurovision,” the broadcaster explained.

This was reported with reference to a post by Česká televize on Instagram.

The Eurovision organizers have introduced new rules for the contest.

As a reminder, Greek singer Akylas, who was a finalist in “Eurovision 2026,” found himself at the center of a scandal after performing a song by the Russian band “Tatu.” The video quickly went viral on social media and sparked a wave of criticism, particularly from Ukrainian users and LELEKA, Ukraine’s representative at the contest.

Meanwhile, the Public Broadcasting Service received 642 applications from young performers wishing to participate in the national selection for the “Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2026.” This year, more than six hundred people expressed interest in representing Ukraine at the prestigious music show.
