Art historian Didier Rickner criticized Macron's vision for the Louvre

Art historian, investigative journalist, and founder and editor-in-chief of *La Tribune de l’Art*, Didier Rickner, has criticized the Louvre’s current priorities and its vision for the museum’s future, which is linked to French President Emmanuel Macron.

In an interview with France 24, Rickner stated that the museum’s main problem lies not in a lack of resources, but in their misallocation. He acknowledged that investments in the Louvre’s security are necessary and inevitable.

At the same time, according to the historian, a greater threat is the deterioration of the museum’s historic fabric and the allocation of funds toward architectural expansion, which he considers unnecessary and politically motivated. Rikner emphasized that world-class museums must prioritize the preservation of their collections and buildings, as well as the visitor experience, rather than prestigious large-scale projects.

The interview with Rickner was conducted by Stuart Norval.
