The Odessa National Opera will present a production of *Kateryna*, based on Shevchenko’s work, in Kyiv
The Odessa National Opera is preparing for the Kyiv premiere of the opera “Kateryna,” set to music by contemporary composer Oleksandr Rodin.
This production, based on the literary legacy of Taras Shevchenko, is considered the theater’s most ambitious project since Ukraine’s independence and has already garnered critical acclaim.
The performance combines a classical literary foundation with innovative staging solutions. Audiences will see impressive set design, a rich palette of costumes, and unique visual effects.
The musical score is complemented by authentic sounds of nature—from birdsong to the magical sounds of wind and rain.
The plot focuses on life in a Ukrainian village, which, in terms of customs and ethics, resolutely rejects “Muscovism.” The creators have succeeded in conveying the profound drama of the protagonist’s fate through the lens of national traditions.
The authors paid special attention to the use of traditional musical instruments to create a unique atmosphere.
The performance will take place on June 16 on the stage of the Ivan Franko National Academic Theater. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.
