Polyakova wrote a letter to Suspilne following the scandal at Eurovision
Singer Olya Polyakova, who was previously denied participation in the National Selection for Eurovision 2026 due to her performances in Russia after 2014, has released a new letter addressed to “Suspilne.” In it, the artist called for a change in the contest rules ahead of the Eurovision 2027 selection.
Polyakova proposes allowing artists who have visited Russia since 2014 but have not performed there since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022 to participate. According to her, the current requirements need to be revised, and this issue is already being discussed with representatives of the broadcaster and the Verkhovna Rada’s Temporary Investigative Commission.
In her statement, the singer also cited the results of sociological surveys. According to her, 89% of respondents support restrictions only for those artists who have visited Russia after February 24, 2022, while 64% believe that a consistent pro-Ukrainian stance and support for Ukraine since 2014 offset pre-war commercial trips to Russia.
Separately, Polyakova raised the issue of funding for the National Selection.
“69% do not support budget funding for the National Selection in its current format at all, while 42.4% believe that the competition should be funded by sponsors and partners, not public funds,” the singer stated.
She called on the organizers to take these arguments into account when drafting the new rules for the National Selection.
