Nicosia festival featuring 22 productions from six countries to begin — Cyprus Mail
The seventh International Nicosia Festival will begin in Nicosia, Cyprus, on September 12. Its programme will run for 50 days and include theatre, dance, music and performances. The festival will present 22 productions from Cyprus, Greece, Lebanon, France, Ireland and Spain, Cyprus Mail reports.
The main venue will be the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, while some events will also take place at other locations across the city. The festival will run from September 12 to November 1.
Festival opening
The first events on the programme will be performances of Goodbye Lindita, directed by Mario Banushi, on September 12 and 13. Banushi, who received the Silver Lion award at the Venice Theatre Biennale, will present a production about loss, memory and the bonds that remain after death. The production has already been staged at leading venues and festivals in various countries.

On September 15, L’Évènement, a production by the Comédie-Française, will be presented in Cyprus for the first time. Françoise Gillard will bring to the stage an autobiographical work by Nobel Prize laureate Annie Ernaux. The production addresses freedom, self-determination and a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body.
Dance, music and Solomos’s texts
On September 17 and 18, Kinitiras Group and Antigoni Gyra will stage The Woman of Zakynthos at the To Erma café in central Nicosia. The production will combine the words of Dionysios Solomos with movement and music.
On September 20, Lebanese choreographer Ali Chahrour will come to Nicosia for the first time with the major international co-production When I Saw the Sea. The performance is based on the real stories of three women. It will combine dance, music and personal testimonies, addressing dignity, freedom and survival.
