Patarei fortress walls in Tallinn to become an interactive canvas
On Friday evening, the walls of Tallinn’s Patarei sea fortress will be transformed into an interactive canvas as part of an art project by French visual artist Maxim Turut. The Let’s Draw installation will be part of the 10th annual Tallinn Culture Night, ERR News reports.
Drawings from phones on fortress walls
Visitors will be able to create images using their phones, with their drawings appearing on the walls of the historic waterfront complex in the Põhja-Tallinn district in real time. The projection will run from 8:00 p.m. until midnight. People of all ages and with any level of artistic skill are invited to take part.
Tallinn Deputy Mayor Monika Haukanõmm called the installation a vivid example of the Culture Night’s goal of offering the public diverse and inspiring cultural events. According to her, it is a rare opportunity to see one’s own drawings projected onto the walls of a historic structure such as Patarei fortress.

More than 20 events across the city
For Maxim Turut, the event will be his first visit to Estonia. Tallinn city authorities launched Culture Night in 2015. The event aims to showcase the cultural life of Estonia’s capital, draw audiences to unusual venues, and give greater attention to young and lesser-known artists.
This year’s 10th Culture Night will include more than 20 events in different parts of Tallinn. Katriin Kukk, The Boondocks and OOPUS will perform on the main festival stage in the courtyard of Patarei fortress.
