Petroleum product sales in Cyprus fell by 1.4% in August — Cyprus Mail
In Cyprus, petroleum product sales in August 2026 decreased by 1.4% year-on-year, to 121,646 tonnes. Compared with July, sales volume fell by 15.3%, according to data from Cyprus’ Statistical Service Cystat, Cyprus Mail reports.
Largest decline
In August, asphalt sales saw the sharpest decline, falling by 23.9% to 1,484 tonnes. Sales of heating gasoil dropped by 9.2% to 3,021 tonnes, while jet kerosene sales declined by 6.1% to 38,775 tonnes. Road diesel sales decreased by 1.6% to 26,771 tonnes.
At the same time, sales of unleaded motor gasoline increased by 1.5% to 29,792 tonnes. Sales of liquefied petroleum gas rose by 8.6% to 3,402 tonnes, while marine gasoil sales increased by 3.1% to 12,171 tonnes. Jet kerosene remained the largest individual category by volume, followed by gasoline and road diesel.
Prices at petrol stations increased
Sales through petrol stations changed little in August, rising by 0.2% year-on-year to 54,704 tonnes. Petrol sales at filling stations increased by 1.8% to 29,462 tonnes, while road diesel sales fell by 2.1% to 22,158 tonnes. Petrol and road diesel accounted for more than 94% of sales at filling stations.

In January–August 2026, total petroleum product sales in Cyprus increased by 0.6% compared with the same period in 2025, reaching 999,206 tonnes. Sales through filling stations over the period rose by 1.2% to 465,224 tonnes.
In August, the average price of a litre of 95-octane unleaded petrol was €1.589, up 10.4 cents from July. The average price of diesel fuel rose by 20.1 cents to €1.795 per litre. As of September 14, the average price of petrol reached €1.641 per litre, while diesel fuel cost €1.905.
Cyprus’ Consumer Protection Service said annual inflation accelerated to 3.5% in August from 2.9% in July. Among the factors, the agency cited a 20.3% increase in petroleum product prices and a 6% rise in electricity and water supply prices.
