The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has recorded its 27th blackout since the occupation of the plant began
On the night of August 20, the 27th blackout occurred at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, after which the plant switched to power from diesel generators. The situation has once again heightened the risks to nuclear and radiation safety.
This was reported by the press service of the National Atomic Energy Company “Energoatom.”
“The temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP lost its external power supply for the 15th time this year: backup diesel generators automatically kicked in to ensure the operation of critically important safety systems,” the statement said.
As Pavlo Kovtoniuk, head of “Energoatom,” emphasized, regular blackouts at the Zaporizhzhia NPP wear down equipment and increase safety risks. Frequent activation of diesel generators leads to faster equipment degradation.
The company noted that this latest blackout once again confirms that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains fragile.
Risks to nuclear and radiation safety are intensifying under the influence of incompetent Russian “managers.”
