China’s highest-altitude substation has transmitted over 11.6 billion kWh of clean electricity
In China, the Yunshan 750 kV substation, the country’s highest-altitude facility of its voltage class, has transmitted more than 11.6 billion kWh of clean electricity since it began operations. On Tuesday, the facility marked three years of operation, ECNS reports.
Substation at an altitude of 3,365 meters
The CHN Energy substation is located at an altitude of 3,365 meters above sea level in Tongde County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, in northwestern China.
Yunshan collects and transmits hydropower and other clean electricity from the Maerdang Hydropower Station and nearby areas.

Qinghai–Henan transmission project
The facility supports the ultra-high-voltage direct-current power transmission project between Qinghai and Henan.
According to ECNS, the substation operates in harsh high-altitude conditions. To ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid, regular inspections, targeted maintenance and intelligent monitoring systems are used at the facility.
