Construction begins in China on offshore oil and gas project for Qatar
Construction has begun in Qingdao, China, on a major offshore oil and gas engineering project for the Bul Hanine field in Qatar. The work is being carried out by the Chinese company Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd (COOEC), ECNS reports.
$4 billion contract
The project is called Qatar BH EPIC, and the contract is valued at $4 billion. According to COOEC, it is the highest-value international offshore oil and gas project undertaken by a Chinese company.
At the start of construction in Qingdao, a machine cut the first steel plate for the project. In total, more than 130,000 metric tons of steel are planned to be used for its implementation.

Field infrastructure
The project includes more than 60 offshore structures, 40 subsea pipelines and cables, as well as platform upgrades and dismantling.
Digital technologies, including 3D modeling and engineering simulation, will be used as part of the work to improve efficiency. ECNS also notes that COOEC has expanded its international presence in recent years by securing record-high-value contracts in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and North America.
