Pakistan expects second LNG cargo from Qatar via Strait of Hormuz — OilPrice
Pakistan is expecting its second liquefied natural gas cargo from Qatar in September, which passed through the Strait of Hormuz after Islamabad held talks with Iran on safe transit. According to OilPrice, citing Bloomberg sources familiar with the agreement, the cargo passed through the strait last weekend and was due to arrive in Pakistan by Tuesday.
Second cargo in September
This will be the second Qatari LNG cargo Pakistan is set to receive in September. Earlier this month, separate carriers managed to move cargoes out of the Persian Gulf.
According to Bloomberg, Pakistan had already negotiated directly with Iran on the safe passage of an LNG cargo in May. The country is seeking to secure gas supplies and reduce power outages.

Gas supplies
Before the war, Pakistan relied primarily on long-term supplies from Qatar. As OilPrice writes, disruptions to them forced the country to turn to more expensive purchases on the spot market, increasing electricity generation costs.
OilPrice also reports that Qatar declared force majeure on exports after Iranian strikes damaged the Ras Laffan LNG export hub. According to the publication, the renewed closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the blocking of cargoes from the Qatari supplier forced Pakistan to seek liquefied gas on the spot market and pay a higher price for it.
Recently, some LNG cargoes from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates passed through the Strait of Hormuz or were transferred from ship to ship outside it near the coast of Oman. OilPrice notes that the increase in such voyages may indicate intensified efforts by Persian Gulf exporters to transport gas through the strait after supplies had nearly completely halted for several months.
