Factory-assembled transformer unit installed in Suqian in one hour — ECNS
In Suqian, Jiangsu Province, China, State Grid Suqian Power Supply Company for the first time carried out the integral lifting of a factory-assembled distribution transformer set. The work was performed during the upgrade of the overloaded Baiding No. 5 transformer site in Peiwei, Siyang County. The equipment set was installed in one hour, ECNS reports.
Factory pre-assembly
Conventional installation of such a transformer site involves erecting poles, lifting the transformer, installing distribution cabinets, making cable terminations, connecting wires and commissioning. According to the source, this work usually takes at least four hours.
Earlier this year, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. launched a pilot program at State Grid Suqian Power Supply Company to use factory-assembled distribution transformers. Most operations under this approach are performed in production workshops, while integral lifting of the equipment and minor work to restore connections remain on site.

Reducing work at height
Previously, pole assembly, transformer installation and cable termination work were carried out directly on power grid poles. This required prolonged work at height and created significant safety risks.
Factory assembly makes it possible to carry out the main operations on the ground and, according to the company, reduce the volume of work at height by more than 80%. Cable termination work and wire fastening have been standardized on assembly lines. The company also said that each module undergoes quality inspection before leaving the factory.
