PetroChina in China exceeds 30 mln tonnes of oil and gas equivalent — ECNS
PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company in China exceeded 30 mln metric tonnes of production in oil and gas equivalent from the beginning of 2026 as of September 28. This is a record figure for the corresponding period in the company’s history, ECNS reports.
Results of new wells
Several of the company’s key projects demonstrated high results this year. New wells in the Gaoshiti and Dengying formations delivered open-flow rates of more than 1 mln cubic metres per day.
The company also used resource recovery enhancement methods at long-developed fields. Well Moxi 022-X11, previously considered nearly depleted, was returned to production after repairs and acid treatment. Its output exceeded 350,000 cubic metres of gas per day.

Shale gas development
Shale gas production remains a separate focus. A pilot project to develop ultra-deep shale gas in the Wujiaping formation reduced the average drilling time by 32.5% and set a new record for ultra-deep hydraulic fracturing operations.
Company representatives expect total production in oil and gas equivalent to reach a record level by the end of 2026 as well.
