Texas accounted for 28.5% of US gross natural gas withdrawals in 2025
In the United States, Texas accounted for 13,603.5 billion cubic feet of gross natural gas withdrawals in 2025, or 28.5% of the country’s total. Total gross gas withdrawals in the United States amounted to 47.7 trillion cubic feet, OilPrice reports.
Gross withdrawals are the entire volume of gas obtained from wells before processing. This indicator differs from volumes of marketable or dry natural gas.
Texas and Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania ranked second with 7,675.8 billion cubic feet, equivalent to 16.1% of the nationwide volume. Together, Texas and Pennsylvania accounted for nearly 45% of gross natural gas withdrawals in the United States.

New Mexico ranked third with 4,150.5 billion cubic feet, while Louisiana was fourth with 3,817.3 billion cubic feet. These two states, together with Texas and Pennsylvania, accounted for 61.3% of the country’s gross natural gas withdrawals.
Appalachia as a gas hub
Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio together accounted for 13,377 billion cubic feet of gas, or 28% of the total US volume. A significant share of this production is associated with the Marcellus and Utica shale formations.
West Virginia ranked fifth with 3,600 billion cubic feet, while Alaska was sixth with 3,546.1 billion cubic feet. The data are based on statistics from the US Energy Information Administration; however, the latest available figures for 2024 were used in calculations for five states.
