Ghanaian government to continue talks with trade unions on private sector participation in ECG
The Ghanaian government will continue negotiations with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on the proposed private sector participation in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). This was stated by Richmond Rockson, spokesperson and head of communications at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, MyJoyOnline reports.
Trade unions' position
The TUC opposes the proposed private sector participation model, or PSP, considering it an effective form of ECG privatization. Rockson noted that the government considers the trade union congress an important stakeholder in the energy sector and does not want disagreements to turn into a public confrontation.
According to the spokesperson, the authorities have conducted dialogue with the TUC in good faith and openly. He called on trade union representatives to contact the Ministry of Energy directly for clarification or to express comments on the proposal.

Closed-door negotiations
Rockson stated that the government would prefer to resolve contentious issues during closed-door meetings rather than through a public exchange of statements. He proposed returning to negotiations to discuss the existing problems and find solutions.
He also said that after the government approved the PSP model in April 2025, Energy Minister Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor explained the authorities' position and responded to stakeholders' questions. According to Rockson, the minister provided the necessary data when it was requested by participants in the discussions.
