12 vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend — OilPrice
The number of cargo vessels that passed through the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend fell to 12. A week earlier, 35 tankers and other cargo vessels passed through this sea route, OilPrice reports, citing Reuters.
Vessel tracking data
The count is based on data on tankers with their transponders switched on. Some vessels turn off these devices to avoid detection, and not all tracking services include such vessels in their statistics.
Earlier, Reuters, citing data from analytics company Kpler, reported that four tankers passed through the Strait of Hormuz last Thursday. This is below the average of 16 vessels over the previous 10 days. In the week before September 13, 13 very large crude carriers exited the strait, Kpler noted.

Saudi Arabia’s exports
At the same time, JPMorgan reported an improvement in tanker traffic, including traffic linked to Saudi Arabia. According to the investment bank’s estimate, over the previous six days the country exported about 2.9 million barrels of oil per day through the Strait of Hormuz.
As OilPrice writes, Saudi Arabia transports oil by pipeline to the port of Ras Tanura in the Persian Gulf. From there, it is delivered by small vessels to the Gulf of Oman, where the cargo is transferred to larger tankers.
Saudi oil flows from the port of Yanbu on the Red Sea were disrupted after a series of Houthi strikes from Yemen on targets in Saudi Arabia, OilPrice reported. The publication mentioned strikes on targets in Riyadh and on the port of Yanbu, which became the main route for Saudi oil exports after shipping in the Strait of Hormuz was halted.
