GSK acquires rights to multiple myeloma drug from China’s Chimagen
GSK is acquiring global rights to an experimental drug against multiple myeloma developed in China by Chimagen Biosciences. The potential value of the deal could reach $750 million, STAT News reports.
Preclinical development
The deal concerns an unnamed trispecific T-cell activator. GSK called it a potentially first-in-class drug for treating multiple myeloma, a blood cancer.
The candidate is currently at the preclinical development stage. The start of human trials is planned for next year.

According to GSK’s assessment, the development may combine effective targeting of multiple myeloma cells with an improved safety profile compared with other T-cell activators for this disease. The company noted that other drugs of this type had challenging tolerability profiles.
Acquiring global rights is part of GSK’s efforts to expand its development portfolio. At the same time, the candidate’s name was not disclosed in the announcement.
