Ares appoints James Garforth as principal in Asia direct lending
Global alternative investment management firm Ares Management Corp has appointed James Garforth as a principal in its Asia direct lending business. Channel NewsAsia reports, citing an internal company memo seen by Reuters.

Garforth will be based in Hong Kong and will report to Peter Graff, partner and head of Ares direct lending in Asia. A company representative confirmed the appointment details to Reuters.

Previous experience
Before joining Ares, Garforth worked at BGH Capital in Melbourne, where he had led the capital markets division since 2023. He previously also worked at KKR Capital Markets in Sydney.
Prior to that, Garforth spent nearly 10 years in leveraged finance and financial sponsors roles at Credit Suisse in New York and Sydney. According to the internal memo, he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from the University of Queensland.
