ASX 200 futures point to a decline — ABC News Australia

In Australia, futures for the ASX 200 index indicated a possible market decline of 0.7%, to 8,711 points. On Friday, the ASX 200 index itself ended the session unchanged at 8,731 points, ABC News Australia reports.

Performance of US and European stock markets

On Wall Street, trading on Friday ended mixed: the S&P 500 rose by 0.2%, Nasdaq by 0.4%, while the Dow Jones fell by 0.2%. Despite this, the S&P 500 recorded a slight decline over the volatile week. Rising shares of semiconductor manufacturers helped the US market end Friday's session with a small gain.

European stock indices fell on Friday: Germany's DAX lost 1.6%, Britain's FTSE fell 1.5%, and the pan-European Eurostoxx 600 declined 1.2%.

Commodity and currency prices

The spot price of gold rose by 0.9%, to $4,379 per ounce. Brent crude futures fell by 0.4%, to $104.87 per barrel, while WTI declined by 1.6%, to $100.30 per barrel.

Meanwhile, the price of iron ore rose by 0.8% on Friday, to $97.10 per tonne, while copper on the London Metal Exchange gained 0.4% to $14,573 per tonne. The Australian dollar rose by 0.1%, to 71.17 US cents. Bitcoin lost 0.8%, falling to $81,063. The data are as of approximately 7:00 a.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time.
