ASX 200 futures point to a 0.5% rise after Wall Street gains

According to ABC News Australia, futures for Australia’s ASX 200 index indicated a possible 0.5% increase to 9,028 points. This came after a positive close on Wall Street on Friday and ahead of a corporate earnings reporting day in Australia.

Stock index performance

On Friday, the S&P 500 rose by 0.4%, the Dow Jones by 1%, and the Nasdaq also by 0.4%. At the same time, the S&P 500 lost 1.4% over the week.

European indices DAX, FTSE and Eurostoxx each gained 0.6% on Friday. The ASX 200 itself fell by 0.3% in Friday’s session to 9,059 points. The Australian dollar added 0.4% and stood at 71.68 US cents.

Commodities and company reporting

The spot price of gold rose by 1.9% to US$4,603 per ounce. Brent crude futures increased by 0.6% to US$94.39 per barrel, while WTI gained 0.3% to US$87.06. Iron ore rose by 0.5% to US$96.10 per tonne, while copper on the London Metal Exchange lost 0.1% to US$14,041 per tonne.

The report also noted that bitcoin added 0.1% to US$77,394. The quoted market prices were current at approximately 7:00 Australian Eastern Time. Financial results were expected from Adairs, Ampol, Bendigo & Adelaide Bank, Chorus, Data#3, Endeavour, Monash IVF, NIB, Nuix, PLS, Reece and Ventia Services.
