OPay announces eight years of operations in Nigeria — Premium Times Nigeria
Fintech company OPay said it is marking eight years of operations in Nigeria in 2026 and continues to develop digital financial services. As Premium Times Nigeria reports in a press release, the company began operating in the country in 2018 and states that its goal is to make financial services more accessible through technology.
Digital financial services
OPay said that through its platform, users can make money transfers, purchase mobile airtime and mobile internet, pay bills, use cards and savings services. The company also states that it provides services for merchants, as well as other digital financial services.
The press release includes stories from platform users. Saliu Oluwabukola said she first used the app in 2019 to transfer funds and later began using it to pay for mobile services and electricity bills. Dahiru Haruna said he learned about OPay around 2020 after taking an ORide trip in Lagos.

Licences and social initiatives
According to the company, the foundation of its operations in Nigeria was provided by the acquisition of Paycom, a mobile money operator licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria. OPay also states that it holds a national microfinance bank licence.
The company reported investments in technology, customer support and security. Separately, OPay said it had committed to allocating 1.2 billion Nigerian naira over 10 years to a scholarship programme for young people. Other social initiatives by the company, it claims, include youth development, support for women, skills development and assistance to communities.
